Project: EMIKA: Real-time managed mobile informations systems in hospital-management software

Project description

Patient logistics in a hospital is characterized by the non-deterministic occurrence of emergencies, delays and cancellations at any time. A main problem for IT-supported centralized scheduling and resource allocation is the lack of timely updated information. In this paper, we consider the use of software agents in combination with mobile personal digital assistants and radio frequency identification tags, to overcome the information barrier between physical and logical space. The devices make it possible to track resources and changes in the physical world and to update the information system. Software agents are able to detect changes in their logical environment, adapt to new situations by decentralized re-negotiation of schedules, and inform medical staff automatically by sending the new information to the networked mobile device.
